BIMI or Brand Indicators for Message Identification is an email specification
that allows the display of logos in supported email providers. This logo is only
visible if DMARC is fully setup and valid, which encourages a deeper level of
sercurity in emails. To display a BIMI, it also requires a VMC Certificate attesting
the authenticity of the logo and decreases the risk of usurpation.
Why implement BIMI with Merox?
A VMC (or Verified Mark Certificate) is a digital certificate that assures that logos displayed in the email client (such as gmail, apple mail, yahoo…) are effectively used and owned by the brand sending the message. Only a few renowned certificate authorities are able to issue such certificates. The goal is to make it safer for your recipients and increase their trust in your brand. The use of a VMC certificate prevents all kind of forging thus preventing anyone from using a logo without verified ownership. To prove ownership, a registered trademark of the logo is needed (deposited in one of many recognized trademark offices such as EUIPO, USPTO, UKIPO…). Currently, most email providers supporting BIMI require a valid VMC to display a brand logo.
